Havregrynskugler

Our work holiday party is this week and I have been asked to make the desserts. Haveregrynkugler were a Christmas favorite when I was little, and I wanted to share that with my coworkers.  I used my Mormor's recipe, here is a very similar recipe I found online. This is a great recipe to make with children, it is very easy and they can get their hands dirty.

For Charlotte

"The Cot"
"The Rocking Horse"
"The Highchair"
My new little niece  Charlotte has me back to thinking about baby furniture. There are so many scandinavian brands for baby and children's furniture on the market that are timeless; pieces that can be handed down through generations. Hindevagaard is no different. The High chair is another example of a highchair that can grow with your child moving from a highchair to a small desk perfect for coloring or eating as a toddler. The Cot can move from a crib to a small sofa by easily removing one side when the time comes to move to a bed.

Cozy Cravings

Via
This winter I had been lusting after a deer skin for my office floor. A beautiful deer hide on a wood floor is such a simple way of making a space a little warmer. Here are some inspirations as well as my new Reindeer rug from Toast.

Scandinavian Christmas Dinner

Most Americans don't really know what Scandinavian food is. Most know the food court at Ikea, as well as the now the very famous Noma in Copenhagen. My friends are no different, so I thought I would kick off the holiday season by making some typical cold weather Scandinavian dishes. All of the recipes I used were out of "The Scandinavian Cookbook" with a few things from memory.

To start we had some sparkling wine with gravlax, a dill sauce and toast. Dinner was made up of Swedish meatballs with gravy and lingonberry sauce, caramel potatoes and red cabbage. For dessert I made Danish Delights, Glogg and Ebelskriver.

It isn't just about the food, it also about the lighting, and the table scape and of course, the company. The only lights that were on were on the Christmas tree, the remainder of the lighting came from soft candle lighting. I kept the table very basic with white plates, clear multi height wine glasses and a winter arrangement I put together.

Kaare Klint

Kaare Klint was a danish architect and furniture designer who has also been called the father of danish modern design. He began designing furniture in 1914, with some of his more famous designs coming out 20 years later. For me true modern design is something that is still relevant 50,100,200 years later, and that is absolutely the case with Kaare Klint pieces.

Collector

I have never been one to collect things. When something new comes in, something old goes out. I can appreciate a true collectors passion, it must be exciting to hunt for rare objects and satisfying when you find them. Without realizing it, I have become a collector of Kay Bojesen figures. The first one given to me was the small Monkey as a wedding gift and the most recent one I was given is the Royal Guardsman. These objects are beautiful, well crafted and playful. They sit on a bookshelf in our office, adding a little bit of fun to an otherwise boring room.

Danish Architecture brings a smile to my face. It is simple in design and often times colorful. Here are some shots from my trip.
