For a calm nursery I recommend soft colors and light woods.  I love a neutral baby room that does not have to change as your baby gets older. If you want to add a little bit of playful color;  add colorful accessories into your nursery.

Milk pitchers are wonderful if you are serving a afternoon tea time, however they also make beautiful centerpieces with a few seasonal flowers on the table. They are small, versatile,  and absolutely worth the investment.

Living with pets without giving up style

Pet Project
Via Moderncat
We just got our first dog, a Lakeland Terrier named Ailsa, featured below. With a pet comes a lot of really unattractive equipment. I believe that you do not need to give up your style for your new loved one. There are simple solutions like the rug below with Ailsa on it;  something that still looks great and can easily be thrown in the washer for those "occasional" accidents. There are some really beautiful homes in scandinavia that have not given up on style for the sake of their pet.

Storage Bench
Via The White Company
A great way of hiding all of those pet toys, food, cleanup products , and any other pooch accessories is a entryway bench with some hidden storage. The bench from the White company fits in perfectly with the scandinavian aesthetic

One of my Favorite things about flipping through design magazines is seeing the latest seasonal products. There are so many beautiful patterns and colors for each season, and I can always picture how  these pieces would look on my dining table, but who has space for an entire new set of plates, glasses and serving pieces for every season? You can use really great basics year round that will look beautiful and fresh for any occasion without having to get a storage unit to store it all. I think Danes have found a great way of doing this, by keeping things simple.
Some great basics that I always keep in the kitchen for anything from breakfast with my husband to a dinner party are;
White plates and serving dishes ;beautiful hand blown wine glasses; a gorgeous table cloth or two and most important lots and lots of candles.

New talents coming out of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts

This amazing cocktail table is by Allan Nøddebo Nielsen. The center piece lifts up to reveal a small storage space, while the center piece itself ends up becoming a small tray you can move around. What a great table for a party.

Scandinavian books that inspire me

Via Barnes and Noble

Here are a few great books that I often refer to when I want to share  the Danish half of me with friends over a home cooked scandinavian dinner; or to simply get ideas for my home and how I want to live in it.

The Gamla Stan book was a gift from the author, however you can find it online as well. The beautiful photos and writing give a real inside look to those living in this old part of Stockholm.

White Bedrooms

My Bedroom on the right and
my inspirations below

White bedrooms are calming spaces; whether modern, traditional or rustic they are all equally inviting. Without the distraction of busy sheets or bright wall colors, an all white room is something anyone can relax in.

Plants and Flowers

Via Simplicity

Plants and Flowers are used both indoors and outdoors, it helps to soften some of the all white homes.  When it is cold and Dark outside there is something really comforting about still being able to have some fresh plants around you.

Here is my inspiration on the left for my image on the right.
