New addition to the living room

We took some time off of furniture buying, and making changes to our home for the summer and fall to spend a little time traveling. I am back and refocused on finishing up the apartment, taking care of those little projects I'd put on the back burner and picking up a few new pieces. 

When I first moved to NY I bought things to fill the space, not things that I loved. Slowly those pieces that were there to fill a void have been thrown out. Anything that now comes in will be a part of my home for a long time. Today I picked up a Cuba chair from Carl Hansen in Soaped Oak with  natural cotton straps. I love it and knew it would fit in perfectly.

On friday while playing with Ailsa I accidentally broke both of the toasting glasses from our wedding, which was incredibly upsetting. The toasting glasses that we had were Orrefors Intermezzo Blue Champagne flutes. 

This got me thinking that we could use a new set of glassware, as we never registered for them for our wedding. I ended up ordering the "Charlotte Amalie" glassware from Holmegaard. These glasses are timeless and can work for a casual dinner on the balcony on a warm summer night or for a dinner party with friends. 

There is a story behind the design of the glassware as well, and I would like to think that most designs are developed by an inspiration and come with a story. "Such is the case with Charlotte Amalie. Named after his wife, Charlotte Amalie’s feminine silhouette salutes Per Lütken’s passion for creating soft lines from the glowing glass mass."

I can't wait to use these with friends next week.

My Mormor collected these Bjorn Winblad pieces growing up. She had a plate on the wall in the dining room for every month. When she passed away my mother gave me the tumbler, which now sits on my dresser with my makeup brushes. A few weeks ago I was in an antique shop in Connecticut and came across the "Tea for Two" plate by Bjorn Winblad for Nymøll. I have said before that I am not a collector, however I am sure that if I happen to pass another piece, I'll pick it up. This collection is no longer in production, however I found a few images to give you an idea of the breathe of his art.
