Sen Sen

I will be looking at accessories for a little while, while trying to get the apartment ready for a new season. Here is another scandinavian company called Sen-Sen who have some accessories that would be cozy on a cool spring night. I found them while looking to see what exhibitis would be going on while I am at the Louisiana Museum in Denmark in April.

Asplund accessories

It is spring and I am looking to freshen it up in our living space. Accessories are a great way to make a room feel new without necessarily breaking the bank. Asplund a Swedish based furniture and accessory company with some great vendor partners has a few options.

New throw blanket

Harlequin Blanket

When Ailsa stops teething we can get a new throw blanket to replace the one that used to be really cozy on the sofa. She seems to find it soothing as well although not in the way we do. Here  are a few  potential candidates by Tina Ratzer when our little puppy gets a little bigger.

Paulina Arcklin

In this month's Elle Decor UK there is an article on Finnish stylist Paulina Arcklin's own home. Everything is white, even the pieces that weren't when she bought them were painted white. Painting things white is something that I have done on a few of our current pieces and plan on doing to a few other pieces we own. Here are some photos from her own blog featuring her work. Maybe I'll sand down our cocktail table and paint it white when I find a few quiet moments.

Morten Voss

Morten Voss is a Danish designer that I only just now came across. The flight deck table looks to me to be a modern play on an 18th century design using concrete and steel versus a traditional mahogany.

Morten Voss must have a great sense of humor as this beautiful sofa sounds inspired by a four legged friend. I love how relaxed and cozy this sofa looks, what a perfect place to catch up on some reading. I found this quote on Style Park and completely agree.
"Voss’ ambition is to create design that both challenges and moves our traditional borders and at the same time appeals to our sense of humour and imagination"

Enjoying the outdoors

It was in the 70's today, so I decided to work a little more on the balcony. I went out and got some terra-cotta planters and the flowers shown on our cafe table. Since it was still warm at 7, I decided to make dinner out of my "Scandinavian cookbook" and take it outside.

It is spring here in New York, and I have been cleaning out my closet. Using inspiration I have found on these blogs I am trying my best to throw out as much stuff as I can that is no longer being used, working to scale it back to some great basics. Here are some closets as well as some hang-it-alls I would love to have.

White living rooms

I am slowly, but surely creating a warm feeling in our living room by refocusing my attention on the textures of the pieces I am using versus the colors. White, soft greens and Blues make me happy and make a space cozy for me and my family. Here are some inspirational living spaces that I wish I were in today. Natural materials such as Cotton, linen, sheepskin and wood are what Scandinavians have used for years to make a hyggeligt home.

Dinner at home

Fresh ingredients and good conversation with my husband make for the perfect sunday night. After the weekend I felt like we were in need
of some good nutrients.  I made a simple Sea Bass with parsley and Lemon, and some brown rice with yellow raisins, parsley and yellow onions. I am looking forward to using herbs from my garden in a few more weeks, since they have just sprouted.

Chairs that stand out on their own

When a piece of furniture is made well it doesn't need to have lots of bells and whistles to make it stand out. We have two white oak Wishbone chairs by Hans Wegner at the ends of our dining table, which are usually the most popular when we entertain. They are not popular simply because of the beautiful design, but because they were designed with comfort in mind. A chair needs to be comfortable to keep friends and family around the table for some good food and conversation.

Making my home Hyggeligt

Living/Dining room

We have been living in our apartment for 6 months now, and I am starting to feel like it is becoming the cozy space I have been trying for. There are still some changes to be made and the office is definitely not complete yet, but here it is as of 6 months. Part of living in NYC means thinking outside of the box and having things stored in places you may not have wanted. When you live in a small space you need to use every little square foot you have as effectively as you can without giving up on the things that are important to you in your home. Once the Balcony and office are up to par, I'll put them up.
