Swedish manufacturer Klong work with some very cool designers. One of the many design firms that they work with is the always inventive and fresh " Note Design Studio". I would love some of the Oil Lanterns to bring outside on the balcony for spring.
Welcome to Hyggeligt Hjem og Køkken. When I first created this website, I focused primarily on furniture and home design. Now that I am a new mama and my family has grown, the site has expanded to a lifestyle blog focused on Scandinavian styles with information on great recipes, design, crafts and travel tips. I hope you enjoy :).

Picnic
I have been waiting for Spring long enough and decided to take it upon myself to enjoy it before it has really started. With a high of 49 today, we bundled up, took out our bikes and biked over to the west side and up to the little red lighthouse for a "Spring" picnic. Some of my 2013 Picnic essentials.

Mountain Living, Trysil,Norway
When I was a kid we would drive to Trysil, Norway from Stockholm in the winter to ski on the weekends( It's a very long drive, my father is a ski-fanatic). Here is a beautiful mountain cottage for sale in Trysil.
I live in the city, but am always thinking about an escape home like this for the weekends. Somewhere in the mountains or by the water, where it's quiet and slower paced, where you can be active outside year round.

Axel Einar Hjorth
While going through some of my daily blog reads, I came across a gorgeous vintage dining room table. After doing a little bit of recon I found that it was by Swedish designer Axel Einar Hjorth. Here are some absolutely gorgeous designs of his. He was the head designer at NK's furniture department from 1927-1938. During his career and partly due to his influence, Swedish furniture design shifted from luxurious classicim to strict functionalism. After he left NK he began designing under his own name.

Free Mover
Free Mover is a swedish brand that creates beautiful candleholders and textiles. The candleholders named "Fakla" were designed in the shape of a torch. "The final design ended up with symbolizing light that could be carried by humans in the shape of a torch (fackla in Swedish)" These designs are thoughtful, as there is a story behind each of them.

Slowing Down
Now a days when both you, and your partner/spouse work full time, it is hard to find some time for each other. When you work and commute 12 plus hours a day, and want to fit in other things such as the gym, you end up with very little time to just sit down and talk. Growing up, my parents always made sure that Sunday through Thursday night we sat and ate dinner together at the table as a family. This was our time to catch up with one another, hear how each other's days were, and to just simply connect as a family. I have taken this part of my past with me and make an effort to sit down as many nights as possible to a nice dinner where we can just catch up. We are all so consumed with our own busy days that sometimes we forget to take a second to slow down.

Ceramics
I spent the afternoon in Brooklyn yesterday, doing some home design shopping with friends. One of the amazing things I picked up were some gorgeous tumblers from Mocion. When I got home, I sat and admired my new tumblers ,which got me thinking about ceramics and how much work and love ceramists put into these pieces. A little over a year ago, Wallpaper put out an article about a new ceramics gallery in Copenhagen called "Copenhagen Ceramics". Below are some of the artists featured at the gallery.

Spring is coming
Today was the first taste of Spring, I know we are still some weeks off, but I have hope that it isn't too far off anymore. I spent the day reorganizing closets, bagging up unused clothes, baking, gardening and putting up my new lights. Here are a few pictures from my productive little Saturday.
