Sunday Night dinner

Although there is absolutely nothing Scandinavian about tonights dinner, the feeling is. It has been raining all day so I decided to make a meal earlier on that I could put back into the fridge and enjoy for a few meals. I made a veggie baked ziti packed with seasonal vegetables and a little bit of cheese. When you combine a delicious meal, candles, rain and a little wine, you can't help but smile and get that hyggeligt feeling.

This would make a great umbrella stand!
It is pouring, cold and windy here in NY today; which I have taken as the perfect excuse to give myself the day off to relax, watch movies, read and cook. I have gone out a few times with Ailsa and a much needed umbrella. The umbrella got me thinking about umbrella stands, which can be a great addition to an entryway. We have a small wooden and metal stand, which works perfectly for us, however I am always up to change things out. Here are some umbrella stands I came across. Although I don't have a photo of one up, I also love the idea of using something vintage like a galvanized milking pail.

Home office

Via Lovenordic
Our office/guest room is the room in the apartment I don't like to go into. It feels neither cozy nor very organized, I hope to get it there in the next few months. The first project will be getting new frames and fixing my wall gallery. Here is where it is today and here are some inspirations I'll be referring to as I work on it.

Studio Jenk

Natta
All things being Equal
Studio Jenk is a Norwegian based product development firm.  Some of these products have some great stories such as the Oilo cabinet which the Studio was making for their local cafe on a budget, it turned out to be a nice enough piece for the Stockholm furniture fair ( I agree).

The Candlestick holders ( All things being equal) featured above are made of three different materials, but of the same weights.  Aluminum, Titanium and Brass are all going to be a different weight, if you are trying to get the same dimensions; however if you are looking to get the same weight you will get different dimensions, very cool.

The Natta ( Norwegian slang for goodnight) table has a built in light to the table which is suggested for a bedside nightstand.

I used to go to Gotland for a few weeks in the summer and every day we would pack a picnic and head out for the entire day. This weekend while in central park, I got to thinking that I should start that again here in New York. Here are a few accessories to make your picnic a success, although I think the most important components in a picnic are good people and good food.

Sunday Night Dinner

Most Scandinavians eat a lot of fish, most likely because it is a a local and fresh option. More specifically the type of fish often found is going to be Salmon. I have never cared for the taste, but because I know how good it is for me, I am going to try it again. Tonight I made a Salmon with a Carrot-Ginger Vinaigrette, and an Arugula Salad. I also added some oven roasted red potatoes with Herbs de provence just incase the salad and fish weren't enough. Here is how it came out.

Hørsholm, Denmark

I am heading to Denmark in Two weeks with my mom and could not be more excited. I was born in denmark, specifically in Hørsholm and those roots have stuck with me. Here are some beautiful photos I found online. I will have plenty to post of my own when I get back of friends, family, product and the beautiful spring scenery as when I was there three years ago in March of 2009, it was cold and wet.

Right outside Horsholm is Karen Blixen's home which has now become a museum. For those of you not familiar with her, Meryl Streep played her in a movie based on her life; Out of Africa.

Sunday night dinner

After a fun weekend and a lot of running around central park today, I decided that I deserved a delicious and healthy meal. I made halibut with a plum, pepper and onion salsa, brown rice and brussel sprouts. It turned out really well and made for a beautifully colorful plate of food.

Angell Wyller Aarseth

Angell Wyller and Aarseth are three norwegian product designers who graduated together from the "Oslo National Academy of Arts" in 2010 and have joined forces to create the products below.

Their mono stacking coffee cups are created for the user to use their imagination on how to hold it, and  to decide what it looks like when stacked.

The Dark Matters Lamp has a ball on the base which makes the light reflect around the room versus a traditional pendant which will light the surface below. The idea is to give a warm ambiance to a space.

The Steel mirror has an industrial feel to me with all of the raw materials used to create it.
